7. Changing Text

Changing text is a simple task in Flash. If you have the text inside a symbol you have to go inside that symbol and edit the text from there. In our template we have text inside symbols.

Let's see how we can change it.

Open the file index.fla from template/flash.

Now go the "slogan" movie clip in the Library and double-click it to edit it.

As you can see this symbol contains one line of text. In the Properties palette you can see the text's properties (font, size, color etc.). To edit the text just select the Text tool from the Tools palette ("A" icon) and click inside the text. Change the text as you like it and then return to Scene 1 with one click on the Scene 1 name in the area above the timeline.

The "slogan" symbol will contain the new text and it will appear modified in every instance of that layer in the timeline.

Note that not every text in our movie is editable text. For example the company name "business company" is actually an image because it has effects applied that are impossible to create in Flash. To modify that text you have to edit it in Photoshop and then to export it as an image an import that image in Flash. If you save the new image with the same name as the old one when you'll import the new file in Flash you'll be prompted to choose if you want to replace or not the other image that has the same name. You'll choose to replace the image and then the symbol containing the company name text will automatically update and display the new image.
