16. Exporting A Movie

After you finished editing the animation you have to save it as a movie that will be played in the web page.

Open the file index.fla from template/flash.

To export a movie and a html file that will contain it go to File->Publish

Flash will generate a html file which contains the movie. This html file can be very easily edited in Dreamweaver if you want to add more content or simply to add a background color, a title etc. The html file will be saved together with the swf file in the same folder with the original .fla file.

But before you publish a movie you have to set the publish settings. So go to File-> Publish Setting:

Here you have lots of setting but the most important are the Flash Settings (the second tab)

From here you can set the compatibility of your movie (with which Flash version is it compatible). You can set a compression level from the JPEG quality slider (the better the quality the bigger the movie) and set the audio options. You can leave them at the default values or modify them as you need it.

If you want to simply save a swf file choose File->Export->Export Movie

...and in the window that will pop up select the folder in which you want to save the file and a name for the new file.
